Gypsum Board Partition Material Calculation
Drywall
is a high-performance and lightweight wall partition made of a GI steel frame
attached to gypsum plasterboards with self-drilling drywall screws. The joints
are then taped (joint tape) and finished with gypsum joint wall compound.
Material Required for Drywall Partition | Components of Drywall Partition
Floor
and Ceiling Channel: Fixed to floor and ceiling for securing
’C’
Stud: Used as the vertical supporting wall framing
Noggin
Channel: Used for horizontal support
I
Stud: For shaft wall (If required)
AcouStud: Used
as the vertical support in wall framing. This is a specialist stud which will
give high acoustic performance (If required)
Glass
wool/rockwool: for sound insulation
Gypsum
Board: For 100mm thick partition we will fix metal stud
partitions which includes two layer of gypsum board | 12.5mm (gypsum board) + 12.5mm
(gypsum board) + 50mm channel + 12.5mm (gypsum board) + 12.5mm (gypsum board) =
100mm thick partition
For
75m thick partition we will fix metal stud partitions which
includes single layer of gypsum board | 12.5mm (gypsum board) + 50mm channel + 12.5mm
(gypsum board) = 75mm thick partition
Joint
compound: this is used with paper or fibre joint tape to seal joints between
sheets of drywall to create a seamless base for paint
Joint
tape: mesh tape material used between the gypsum board to
cover the joints
Drywall
screw: Self-tapping trumpet head screw with case-hardened grey
phosphate coating. To fix plasterboard to a metal framework
Drywall
nail:
used for floor and ceiling channel

Example: We have BOQ line
item like this
Providing and fixing Double skin gypsum board of 12.5 mm
thick over Gypsteel of size 50 mm framework. Square and tapered edges of the
boards are to be jointed and finished so as to have a flush look which includes
filling and finishing with jointing compound, paper tape and two coats of
primer suitable for Gypboard (as per the recommended practice of IGL). Cost to
inclusive of Thermoacoustic insulation with thermal bonded polyester fibre to
make Twiga of 50mm thick with a density of 20kg/m³ to be wrapped with RP.Tissue. Note:
Glass Wool with RP. Tissue packing of size 600 x 600mm. Make of Stud &
Channel - Gypsteel. Make of gypsum - India Gypsum, Saint Gobain, La Gyp.
We need to find a quantity of gypsum board, “C”- stud,
floor and ceiling channel, Tissue paper, glass wool, noggin channel, drywall
screw, nail, joint tape, joint compound and primer
Given data/Known details:
Partition board Size: 6x4 ft
Partition Thickness: 100mm - Double skin gypsum board
Partition Length: 10ft (take it for calculation)
Partition Height: 13ft (take it for calculation)
Gypsum Partition Material Calculation
Partition Board Required/ Gypsum Board Quantity Calculation = (Total Partition Area/Partition Board Area) x 4
Note:
For 75mm thick partition | single layer= x 2 sides,
For 100mm thick partition | double layer = x 4)
Partition Area = Partition length x height = 10 x 13ft =
130 sqft
Partition board Area = 6x4 = 24sqft
Partition Board Required/ Gypsum Board Quantity Calculation = (130/24) x 4
= 5.416 x 4
Partition Board Required = 21.664 – 22 no’s
Floor and Ceiling Channel Calculation
Floor and Ceiling Channel = (Length of partition/12) x 2
no’s
Note:
12 = length of Floor and Ceiling Channel in ft
2 = for top and bottom channel
Floor and Ceiling Channel = (10/12) x 2 = 1.67 – 2nos
Floor and Ceiling Channel = 2nos
’C’ Stud Channel Calculation
’C’ Stud = Length of partition/2
(distance between studs) +1
Note:
2 = distance
between studs in feet
’C’ Stud = 10/2+1 = 6nos
’C’ Stud = 6nos
Noggin channel Calculation
Note: we should provide a noggin channel between studs in the height of 3ft and 9 ft for the horizontal
support. We required 2 nos of noggin channel between the stud, but we will take 3
nos per gap for additional support
Noggin channel = 3 no’s x (Partition
Length/2) = 3 x (10/2) = 15nos
Noggin channel = 15nos
Thumb rules for calculating joint tape,
joint compound, drywall screw, nail, and glass wool
Glass Wool/Rock wool =130-140 sqft/roll
joint compounds = 0.069kg/sqft
Joint Tape = 370 ft./1000 sqft per roll
Drywall screw: 200nos/100 sqft
Nail: 125nos/ 100sqft
