Block masonry is a structural building block made of clay, stone, gypsum, concrete and similar materials.
PRE-BLOCK MASONRY CHECKLIST
1. Has the contractor cleaned
the entire floor before starting the line-
out of masonry?
2. Has the RCC surface that is
next to brickwork hacked (6 mm deep and
30 mm c/c.) and wetted?
3. A mortar mixer should be
available; alternatively, a tray and shovels must be used to prepare mortar.
4. The required size of farmas
(40cm X 35cm X 25cm), 4lit and 1 lit water graduated plastic cans to control water-cement ratio, racking tool, broom, block cutting tools etc.
5. Has the Sand been sieved
through a 4.75mm sieve, if found coarse?
6. Have the Quality, Size and
Type of bricks delivered to the site as per the architect's specification?
7. Have the Blocks (of
approved quality) been soaked in water till the bubble ceases to come up?
8. Has the Setting
out/alignment of the brickwork been done as per
Architectural drawings?
9. Check the dimensions and
diagonals of the room after laying the first layer
of blocks
10. Did the contractor mark the
locations of doors and openings?
11. Have the Door/windows
frames(anti-termite treatment to hidden side)
at the Site fixed in the proper position, and in line, level and plumb.
12. Has a layer of Leveling
Course PCC 1:3:6 provided, to adjust full-size blocks, if the ground is not at level
DURING BLOCK MASONRY CHECKLIST
1. Check if the Mortar mix
(mixed as per specification) is uniform and of optimum workability (Ease to work with)?
2. Has the quantity of mortar
sufficient for the next 30 minutes mixed?
3. Block work should be in
proper alignment and plumb with a
systematic bond (English bond unless otherwise specified).
4. Have all the Vertical joints
been staggered?
5. All Joints to be even and
of about 10mm and Raked (8 to 10 mm) out
properly when the mortar is green
6. Ensure only 1.5m of brickwork is laid in a day.
7. At every 1m height, Is a
band of concrete (M20 Grade) with M.S.
reinforced (2 nos. of 8mm dia Tor bars and 6mm dia M.S U-bars at 300mm c/c cement) placed in half brick
masonry? (Applicable for 115mm thickness
wall)
8. Ensure that the top layer,
beneath the beam, contains a full thickness block to allow good distribution of load. Otherwise, fill
the gap with concrete
9. Check if the mortar is
placed between the edge of the brick and the column?
10. Has all the voids in brick
joints been filled with consistent grout?
11. Are Empty cement bags
placed near to adjoining wall for collecting fallen mortar?
POST BLOCK MASONRY CHECKLIST
1. Has all the dates of work
done been marked on walls (to ensure
curing time)
2. Are all courses in
plumb, line & level?
3. Are all door & window
openings as per the drawing provided?
4. Has the entire floor been
cleaned after the work?
5. Has the Block work been
Cured for a period of 07 days (minimum)?
