Ramp Calculator | How to calculate ramp slope & length?
Before designing your ramp and making the necessary measurements, our excel based calculator needs Rise measurement as input
We also have provided three options in our calculator
OPTION 1: Commercial Properties: Compliance
with ADA Standards
While using this option the slope is always 4.8 ° degrees
After You provide the height of the rise and select the unit of
measurement. The sheet will provide the distances
for the ramp length and run by using the formula below
Ramp Length (ft) =
Ramp Rise (in) {or} Ramp Length (ft) = Ramp Rise (ft) x 12
For Ramp Run
Equation,
Ramp Run2 = Ramp length2
- Ramp Rise2
Therefore,
Ramp Run = √(Ramp length2
- Ramp Rise2)
OPTION 2: Residential Occupied - User is
sitting in seat
While using this option the slope is always 10 ° degrees
After You provide the height of the rise and select the unit of
measurement. The sheet will provide the distances
for the ramp length and run by using the formula below
Ramp Length (ft) =
Ramp Rise (in)/2
For Ramp Run
Equation,
Ramp Run2 = Ramp length2
- Ramp Rise2
Therefore,
Ramp Run = √(Ramp length2
- Ramp Rise2)
OPTION 3: Residential Unoccupied - User is
NOT sitting in seat
While using this option the slope is always 10 ° degrees
After You provide the height of the rise and select the unit of
measurement. The sheet will provide the distances
for the ramp length and run by using the formula below
Ramp Length (ft) =
Ramp Rise (in)/3
For Ramp Run
Equation,
Ramp Run2 = Ramp length2
- Ramp Rise2
Therefore,
Ramp Run = √(Ramp length2
- Ramp Rise2)

We also Have another excel based calculator that will find
the slope for any give rise and run. Please

Ramp Calculations
1. Consider We have 2 meter Ramp rise (m)
Meter to feet – 1 meter – 3.28 ft
Therefore,
2 meter x 3.28 = 6.561 ft
So,
Ramp Length (ft) =
Ramp Rise (in) {or} Ramp Length (ft) = Ramp Rise (ft) x 12
Ramp Length (ft) = 6.561 x 12 = 78.732
Ramp Length (m) = 78.732/3.28
= 24.00m
For Ramp Run
Equation,
Ramp Run2 = Ramp length2 - Ramp
Rise2
Therefore,
Ramp Run = √(Ramp length2 - Ramp Rise2)
Ramp Run = √(242 - 22)
Ramp Run = 23.917
