How to calculate bricks, cement and sand for one cubic foot (cft) of brickwork

ow many bags of bricks are required for 100 sqft brickwork?

In this article, we explained How much cement, sand, and bricks are required for 1 square foot and 1 cubic foot of 9” and 4.5” brickwork wall

Let’s dive

The thickness of the brick wall = 9” - 0.75’

Volume of 9” brick work (1 sqft) = 1 x 1 x 0.75 = 0.75cft

We will take brick size - 9″× 4.5″×3″

Size of one brick = 9″× 4.5″×3″ - 0.75’ x 0.383’ x 0.25’

Consider, Thickness of mortar = 0.4 inch = 12 mm

Step – 1: Calculation of bricks needed for 1sqft and cft

Volume of 9” brick without mortar = 0.75’ x 0.383’ x 0.25’ = 0.0718125 cft

The volume of 9” brick with mortar

By adding the thickness of the mortar

Length of Bricks in meter (L) = 9” + 0.4” = 9.4” - 0.783’

Width of Bricks in meter (W) = 4.5” + 0.4” = 4.9” - 0.4083’

Thickness of Bricks in meter (T) = 3” + 0.4” = 3.4” - 0.283’

Size of the brick with mortar in feet = 0.783’ x 0.4083’ x 0.283’

Volume of 9” brick with mortar = L x W x H = 0.783’ x 0.4083’ x 0.283’ = 0.09047 cft

No. of bricks for 1sqft = (volume of 1sqft brickwork/volume of one brick with mortar)

No. of bricks for 1sqft = (0.75/0.09047) = 8.290nos

No. of bricks for 1sqft = 8.290 nos

Step 2: Calculation for the quantity of mortar for 1sqft

Since,

We need 8.29 no of bricks

The volume occupied by bricks = No of bricks x volume of one brick

Volume of bricks = 8.290 x 0.0718125 = 0.5953 cft

The volume of Mortar = Volume of Brick Work - Volume of Bricks

Therefore,

Volume of Mortar = 0.75 - 0.5953 = 0.1547cft

Dry volume of Mortar = 1.33 x 0.1547= 0.205751m3 (33% increment due to volume shrink after water)

Step 3: Calculation for quantity of cement for 1sqft

Cement = (Dry volume of mortar x Cement ratio)/ sum of the ratios (proportion)

Cement= (0.205751 x 1) / (1+6) = 0.205751/7 = 0.029393 cft

Density of cement = 1440Kg/m3

Which means for 1m3 = 1440Kgs required.

Therefore 1cft = 1440/35.315 = 40.775/cft

Since, Density of cement = 40.775/cft

Cement (kg) = 0.029393 x 40.775 = 1.1984 kg

Step 3: Calculation of quantity of Sand for 1sqft

Sand = (dry volume of mortar x Sand ratio)/ sum of the ratios (proportion)

or

Sand = cement volume x 6 (Since 1:6 grade of mortar)

Therefore,

Sand = 0.029393 x 6 = 0.1763

Density of sand = 1600Kg/m3

Which means for 1m3 = 1600Kgs required.

Therefore 1cft = 1600/35.315 = 45.30/cft

Sand = 0.1763 x 45.30 = 7.98 kg / 1000 = 0.00798 tonnes

Sand = 0.00798 x 22 = 0.17556 cft

So, For 1 sqft brickwork we need

Bricks = 8.29 nos

Consider the Percentage of Waste As 10 % Or 15 %

Total no. of bricks = 8.29 + (10 x 8.29)/100 = 9.119 - 10 nos

Bricks needed for 1sqft brickwork = 10 nos

Cement needed for 1sqft brickwork = 1.1984 kg

Sand needed for 1sqft brickwork = 0.17556 cft

How much cement, sand, and bricks are needed for 1 square foot of 9” brickwork?

For one square foot (sqft) 9” brick wall we need 10 nos bricks1.1984 kg cement and 0.17556 cft sand

How much cement, sand, and bricks are needed for 1 square foot of 4.5” brickwork?

For one square foot (sqft) 4.5” brick wall we need 5 nos bricks0.5992kg cement and 0.087cft sand

How to calculate bricks, cement and sand for one cubic foot (cft) of brickwork?

As we know, the area of 1 cubic foot 9” thick brick wall (1 x 1 x 1 = cft) is 1cft so we need 14 bricks, 1.597kg cement and 0.2340 cft sand

How many bags of cement are required for 100 sqft brickwork?

As we know 1sqft brickwork need 1.1984 kg cement therefore 100 sq/ft brickwork need 100 x 1.1984kg = 119.84 kg so, No. of bags = 119.84 / 50 = 2.3968 bags approximately 3 bags need for 100 sq/ft brickwork

How many bags of bricks are required for 100 sqft brickwork?

As we know 1sqft of brickwork needs 10 nos bricks. therefore 100 sq/ft brickwork need 100 x 10 = 1000 nos. so, 1000 bricks need for 100 sq/ft brickwork

How many bags of sand are required for 100 sqft brickwork?

As we know 1sqft brickwork need 0.065 cft sand therefore, 100 sq/ft brickwork need 100 x 0.065 = 6.5cft. so, 6.5 cft sand need for 100 sq/ft brickwork
