Wood Calculations For Doors And Windows | How To Estimate The Cost And Quantity Of A Wooden Door And Frame? | Rate Analysis Of Doors And Windows

TYPES OF WOOD

Teak Wood

Very expensive - Used for Doorsfor doorsand windows

Sal-wood

Economical- Used for Door Frames

Flush wood

Cheaper- Used for Door Shutters

Plywood

Economical Used for Wardrobes, Shelves and Cup-board

Nova pan

Cheaper- used for Tables and Chairs [ with dust partials of wood]

Rubberwood

Cheaper- but not recommended, as it has expanded and

contraction due to weather conditions

In the old days, measuring the amount/quantity of wood needed to make doors and windows, they would buy wood from the market and allow the carpenter to build doors and windows on the site. Doors and windows are now readily / readymade available to save time and manpower.

Problem -1:

Find Cost of Doors, of Size 3'6" x 7' along with Door shutter and Door frame if,

No. Of Doors = 6

Section Of Door Frame = 4” x 3”

Door frame/Rate = 1800 Rs/cft (exotic wood – rate differ accrding to wood quality)

Door shutter Rate/sqft = 120.0 rupees

Find Cost of Doors

Solution:

1. Door Frames:

Given rate for each Door frame of size 3'6" x 7' (3.5’ x7’) with section of frame 4” x 3” = 1800 rupees per cft

No. of Door frames = 6

Length of the frame = 7′ (2 side.)+3.5′ (1 members in top) = 17.5 rft

The total length frame = 6 nos (number of doors)  x 17.5 rft = 105 rft

The cross-section is 4” x 3” is being used for this size of 7′×3′ 6”. With a 4″×3″ section,

Volume of wood required= 105′× 4/12′×3/12′= 8.75 CFT.

Cost for Door frames = 1800 x 8.75 = 15750/-

2. Door Shutters:

Given size of Door    = 3'6" x 7'

To have the actual length and height of the door we want to deduct the frame (4”x3” – 3” will be the width) from the size of the door so,

Length of Door shutter = 3’6" - 3" - 3" = 3’

Height of Door Shutter = 7’ - 3" = 6’9"

Size of Door = 3' x 6'9”

Note: the size of the door should be 2” to 3” excess for jambs (side and head jambs). Carpenter will cut the shutter according to the measurement of frame-to-frame.

Parts of a Door: Anatomy of a Door

Size of Door shutter area = L x H = 3' x 6'9” = 20.25sqft

For Door Shutter given rate / sqft = 120.0 rupees

No. of Shutters = 6

Cost for Door Shutters = 120.0 x 20.25 x 6 = 14580/- rupees

Total cost for 6 Door Frames & Door Shutters = 15750 + 14580 = 28,965/-

Door shutters will be selling in terms of area and per door

Problem -2:

Find Cost of Windows, of Size 4' x 4' along with Window shutter and Window frame if,

No. of Windows = 5

Section of window frame = 3"x 3"

Window frame/Rate = 1800 Rs/cft (exotic wood – rate differ according to wood quality)

Window Shutter = 1200.0 rupees

Find Cost of Windows

Solution:

1. Window Frames:

Given rate for each Window frame of size 4' x 4' with a section of frame 3"x 3"= 1800 Rs/cft (exotic wood – rate differ according to wood quality)

Length of the frame = 4′ (3 side.)+ 4′ (2 members in top and bottom) = 20 rft

The total length frame = 5 nos (number of frames) x 20 rft = 100 rft

The cross-section is 3” x 3” is being used for this size of 4′×4’. With a 3″×3″ section,

Volume of wood required= 100′× 3/12′×3/12′= 6.25 CFT.

Door frame/Rate = 1800 Rs/cft

Cost for window frames = 1800 x 6.25 = 11250/-

2. Window Shutters:

Size of each window shutter = 4' x 4'

To have the actual length and height of the window we want to deduct frame (3”x3” – 3” will be the width) from the size of the window so,

Length of Window shutter = 4’ - 3" - 3" - 3" = 3’ 3"

Height of Door Shutter = 4’ - 3"- 3" = 3’6"

Note: the size of the door should be 2” to 3” excess for jambs (side and head jambs). Carpenter will cut the shutter according to the measurement of frame-to-frame.

Different Parts of a Window

Providing two shutter panels = 3’ 3"/2 in each window = 1’ 7 1/2"

Size of each window shutter = 1’ 7 1/2" x 3’6"

Given Rate/each window shutter = 1200.0

No. of Shutters = 2 in each widow

No. of Windows = 5

Cost for Window Shutters = 1200 x 2 x 5 = 12000/- rupees

Total cost for 5 Window Frames & Window Shutters = 11250 + 12000 = 23,250/-

Window shutters will be selling in terms of area and per Shutter
