How To Calculate Quantity Of Soil/Sand For Filling Plot

How To Calculate Quantity Of Soil/Sand For Filling Plot

In a construction project, Soil backfilling is one of the essential features required. Thus, the site is created and ready for construction.

In this article, we will discuss how to calculate the amount of soil/sand and no of Trolley (Material Handling) / truck needed to fill the plot.

The example we have,

Plot Length = 20 ft.

Plot Width = 10 ft.

Area of the plot = Length x Width = 20 x 10 =200 sqft.

If we need to fill the plot by 3ft. So, plot Depth = 3ft.

Volume of plot to be filled = 200 x 3= 600 cuft.

So, volume is for the loose state. For the filling, the standard for the compaction process is utilized.

Considering the compaction procedure of filling, 30% additional filling material is always utilized.

For instance, 1.3 for the completely compacted state.

So the volume is in a loose state. For the filling, the standard for the process of compaction is used.

Considering the process of compaction to fill, 30% extra filling material is always used.

So, to fully compress 1.3.

For the Process of compaction state, the required quantity of soil/sand for filling the plot = 600 x 1.30 = 780 cuft. (1.30 is a factor)

Now we will calculate required no of Material Handling Trolley/ trucks.

Suppose do we have can have a 250kg load carrying capacity trolley which means it will carry 250/1600 = 0.15625m=  5.51cft soil. (As dry sand has the density of 1,600 kg/m3)

for volume = 1 cubic meter

No. of trolley required = 780/5.51= 141.5 = 142 nos of trolley.

Suppose a truck can carry 2.265cum / 80 cft.

No. of trucks required = 780/80 = 9.75 - 10 no. of trucks.

POINT: The capacity of trucks and carts varies from location to location and by a brand of the company. They were purchased separately as the standard size was not specified according to the cart/truck owner's requirements. In general, however, the volume will be constant based on the counter calculation.

  1. Suppose a truck can carry 80 cft.

No. of trucks required = 780/80 = 9.75 - 10 no. of trucks. its is not Correct because you have Divided Cum/cft
