HOW TO CALCULATE DIMENSIONS OF FOUNDATION
Formulas for minimum dimensions are given below:
Depth of Foundation: For all types of foundations minimum depth required are calculated using Rankine’s Formula:
Where,
p=Soil bearing capacity (SBC)
w =density of soil
Φ =angle of response of soil
Note: the foundation depth should not be less than 0.9 m. it should be kept 0.9 m or even more
Width of Foundation: Width of wall foundations or size of column footing is determined by first calculating the expected load and then dividing that with SBC. Thus,
