1.   Commercial MR grade for interior use

MR = Moisture Resistant

2.   Waterproof BWR the grade for exterior use

BWR = Boiling Water Resistant

BWP = Boiling Proof Resistant

How LCETED Classify

MR Plywood

MR grade plywood is moisture-resistant plywood. Aka commercial plywood. In moisture-resistant plywood, the urea-formaldehyde resin is used to bind the branches to each other. Keep in mind that moisture resistance does not mean waterproof. Plywood is resistant to moisture and moisture and is not water-resistant. Therefore, this type of plywood is used to make furniture that is constantly in contact with water

BWR PLYWOOD

BWR grade plywood is waterproof plywood. It is Boling water-resistant plywood. This makes it better waterproof than MR plywood. BWR plywood is grafted with phenol-formaldehyde resin, which is a synthetic plastic resin. This synthetic plastic adhesive helps make plywood water-resistant. If we compare it to BWP, it is not 100% waterproof.

BWP PLYWOOD

BWP plywood means boiling water source plywood aka marine plywood. The BWP plywood is made up of single selected hardwoods and it’s bonded with synthetic diluted phenol-formaldehyde resin. It is the highest plywood quality in terms of quality and strength compared to MR and PWR plywood.

LCETED TRIVIA

BWP is definitely the best ply, with the highest resistance to boiling water, and hence termites. But the cost of BWP is also much above the other variants.

If the Kitchen is being machine-made, and the laminates and edge-bandings are well sealing the wood, even an MR or BWR grade can work well.

If the area is extremely prone to termites, go for BWP for better resistance. Though in a well-sealed BWR or MR ply, the resistance towards termites is as good.

BWP is heavier. Hence if using BWP in shutters, be extra cautious of the hinges being used. In general, BWP for shutters can be avoided, and restricted to cabinets only.

Other Types Of Plywood

1.  Flexible plywood

Flexible plywood is a special type of plywood that can bend easily without breaking it into pieces.

It can be very useful to create any kind of furniture that has curved surfaces.

Sizes Available

The most common sizes are 8' x 4' (which is roughly equal to 2440 x 1220 mm) though other sizes are also available.

Thickness Available

The thickness of the sheets usually ranges from 3mm to 16mm.

It needs to be noted here, that as the thickness of the ply increases, its bending radii will also increase. So for making tight curves of very small radius, thinner Flexi ply sheets have to be used.

Available in a wide range of flexibility which is measured in curve diameter or radius. (the bend radius can be as low as 25 mm).

2.  Film-Faced Shuttering Plywood Or Laminated Plywood

Laminated plywood. Decorative laminate sheets (also called laminates) form a protective and decorative surface on the plywood, so the finished plywood can be called laminated plywood by adding decorative laminate surfaces

3.  Structural plywood

Structural plywood is an engineering wood panel designed to be a high strength sheet for use in general structural building and construction, subject to the application's load-bearing requirements.

4. Fire retardant plywood

Fire retardant plywood is a type of plywood that is treated with special fire-fighting chemicals at the time of manufacture, making it ideal for combating fire. It is also known as FR grade plywood.
