THE STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR PAINTING EXTERIOR WALL

STEP 1: Wall Plaster

Wall Should Plastered By Cement Mix Ratio 1:5

Mix Ratio of Mortar General Usage Recommended

1:4   for exterior wall & ceiling plaster

1:5   Brickwork Mortar and for Internal plaster (If sand is not fine Fineness Modulas>3)

1:6   For Internal Plaster (if fine sand is available)

STEP 2: Wall Washing

Your exterior walls should be thoroughly cleaned and any overhanging foliage cut back before you begin painting

Do I need to wash the exterior walls before painting?

Clean surface is required before exterior painting can begin. There are many ways to achieve this. Pressure washing may be required to clean up excess dirt and debris. Water jet can trap wood, compromising the integrity of the tree.

STEP 3: 1^st Coat Wall Putty

Fill And Level The Minor Undulations Of Wall By Applying Putty.

Is Putty Required For Exterior Walls?

Wall putty is an intermediate material that we use after building the wall and before we begin the painting. In this regard, you can apply the wall putty on the exterior walls. But, if there are no irregularities, then it may not be necessary. You can use cement plaster to finish the exteriors of the wall.

STEP 4: 2^nd Coat Wall Putty

1) Apply 2^nd Coat Wall Putty. In Case Of Major Undulations On The Wall, apply cement plaster then apply putty (don’t apply POP outer wall opened to sky rain can damage the POP surface)

2) 10-12 Hrs Wall Left To Dry

STEP 5: Surfaces Smoothing

Use 220-Grit Sandpaper To Wall Smoothing

STEP 6: Applying Primer

1) Applying one coat of exterior primer to the wall

2)Allow Wall  To Dry For 3 To 4 Hrs

Purpose of primer

Primer painted wall can increase the durability of the paint and save a great deal of cost savings.

PROCEDURE FOR EXTERIOR WALL RE-PAINTING:

Surface Test: this is the most important part before you start painting. In surface testing, we must eliminate seepage, dirt, oil fatigue, paint imprint by using a variety of equipment such as cloth, sandpaper, plaster, and blades.

Sanding On the faulty surface, I mean a piece of paint that peels, dirt, tension and cracks

Putty: Apply putty to fill the gaps of the needle, tv wall mount, AC mount, cracks on surface and patches. Wait for the putty to dry. Approx 3–4 hours.

Sanding after putty: Do another round of sanding after putty dry, this helps to level the surface

Primer: This is not mandatory for re-painting of the existing colour. This is mostly applicable for fresh painting or colour change

Paint: Do one coat of paint, if you are not satisfied with one coat, Go for another coat.
